Missions
Heartland church believes in missions. From local projects like making snow cones for children who live in disadvantaged housing, to international mission participation, Heartland believes in the great commission. The following are just some of the mission projects we have been involved in recently:
Czech Republic and Holland (2005 and 2007)
Cuba
Russia
France
Germany
We have sent hurricane relief teams to the Gulf coast. Heartland Baptist Church partners regularly with the Boys and Girls club of Alton/Godfrey, Habitat for Humanity, the Barnabas Project, and the Paint Brigade.
Individual Bible study classes and other various organizations within our Church support other ministries like the Baptist Children's home in Illinois and Kentucky, Arms of Love Crisis Pregnancy Center, Shop with a Cop, and Road Rider's for Jesus.

Welcome to Impact Student Ministry. For more information contact Tim Weihrauch, Student Ministries Director or click on the Impact link below.

Children's Ministry
There are many things at Heartland for our children, grades 1-6, including weekly graded Bible Study, AWANA, children's choir, recreation, fellowships, seasonal opportunities like Vacation Bible Study, block parties, art camp, soccer camp, and children's music camp. Parents can be assured that we have safe/quality teachers who love children and strive for their spiritual development, fun and safety.
Extended Care Ministry
During our worship services, our babies and preschoolers are cared for by trained adults and older youth who will care for their needs. Parents are given beepers which will buzz if there is a need in the nursery requiring the parents attention. For your children's safety, all workers must submit to a FBI background check.
See Christina Tweedie or Julie Watkins, our preschool co-directors.
Children's Worship
Our children ages three through third grade sit with their parents during the music portion of the service and then leave with the adult teachers before the message. This offers the children a relevant worship time with a message on their level and it gives them a chance to learn to participate in adult worship. It also give the parents an opportunity to listen to the message without needing to focus on the needs of their small children. There will be no Children's Church the last Sunday of every month.
ROMEO
Retired Old Men Eating Out. These men meet every Tuesday morning at 8:00 for breakfast at Spring Garden and then come to church to take care of maintenance projects.
Contact Augie Westbrook if you would like to join them.
Women's Ministry
There are many exciting areas of service for the women of Heartland. Baptist Women Groups, mission projects and Bible Studies are just some of the opportunities available. Call the church office for more information.
Van Ministry
The van is used on Sunday mornings and evenings to bring individuals to church who otherwise could not come.
Contact the church office for assistance.
Multi-Media/Technical Support Ministry
Individuals are needed on Sunday mornings and evenings to serve in the video ministry. This would include projecting the verses for the songs, sermon notes, and playing special videos. We have state of the art software and video system including dual monitors and a triple video system to aid in our worship service. Fowler Productions, the leader in church video installations uses pictures of our system on their main sales brochure.
In addition, in November of 2006 we added a state of the art studio/stage, computer controlled lighting system in our worship center. We also record our service on professional digital equipment. Verle Campbell leads a video ministry in which he records each service and then copies the services for shut-ins and various guests and members. Services are available on DVD. The need is growing for others with the interest in video production to serve as we record and edit interviews and produce other segments for our worship service.
Training is provided for those interested in helping with the Sound Team. The church has a 32+8 channel board with 4 monitor mixes. If you enjoy working with sound, please contact us.
AWANA
This program meets on Wednesday nights during the school year at 6:30 and is for children two years old through high school. Adults are needed to lead studies, listen to students recite Bible verses, lead activities, and help in the office with record-keeping.
See Calvin Harper for more information .
Young at Heart
YAH--The senior adults meet frequently and enjoy one another's company. If you are interested in being part of this ministry watch the announcements and the bulletin for upcoming activities or call the church office.
Prayer Ministry
We invite all to come out and lift up the name of Jesus, for when Jesus is lifted up, he'll draw all men unto Him. Anyone requesting prayer can call Paulette Hayden to activate this group. Prayer warriors then pray for this request. A calling tree has been organized so members of this group can be called quickly at any time. We do refrain from calling late at night unless there is a life-threatening situation. Let Paulette know if you too would like to be a prayer warrior. At the present time there are over 100 persons on this list. Prayer works.
Kitchen Team
There are occasions when meals are served and you help is needed. On the last Sunday evening of each month there is an all church fellowship.
Building and Grounds
This team takes care of the physical building. There is always much work to be done on the building. If you have any expertise (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, etc.) please let Don McNew know that you would be willing to help in these areas. A few times a year special work days are scheduled for everyone to come to church to help with special projects and cleaning the building and grounds, window washing, and interior painting.
Landscaping
Men or women are needed to mow and trim during the spring and summer. Outside volunteers are often needed for raking, trimming trees and bushes, sweeping, etc.
Contact Jeremy Sneddon for more information.
Women on Mission - Heartland Sisters
This group meets at 9:30 am the second Tuesday of each month at church. Their goal is to learn about, pray for, and give to missions. They spread the joy of the Lord through service. Dolls have been made for children in the hospitals, bracelets for rest home residents, AWANA bags for our children, and caps for cancer patients. They also visit the sick, those who are home bound, and keep in touch with missionaries.
Contact Nancy Whitlow or the church office for more information.
Greeters and Ushers
Greeters are the people you see when you walk into the church each Sunday. If you can smile, shake hands, and say "hello" you need to take your turn at the door.
Contact Linda Witcher to serve as a greeter.
Ushers are needed to take the offering and assist people to their seats.
Contact Ed Kreitner or Carl Hinners to serve as an usher.
Church Library
The library is located in a room outside of the sanctuary. Books, tapes, and videos can be checked out. Talk to Kay Reames if you would like to help in keeping this room organized and up-to-date.
Baptism Assistants
These volunteers assist baptismal candidates as they prepare for their baptism and then as they dress afterwards. Someone also needs to make sure the water is in the baptistery Saturday night and is warm in the morning.
Contact Jeremy Sneddon.
Delivering sermon/service DVD's
Many of our shut-ins enjoy hearing the sermons and visiting with members from the church. If you can take time to minister to these people contact Don Burger.
Church Visitation
Visiting prospective members lets them know we care and are interested in having them join in fellowship with us.
Contact Don and Mary Burger.
Sports and Recreation
During the season, Heartland offers softball and basketball teams which compete in local leagues. During the fall and winter, we hold an open gym for basketball for youth and adults every other week. During the summer Heartland Baptist has several softball teams. Many other recreational activities are available from time to time during the year. |
